What are the differences between the various gold options?

Pure gold (24-karat) is much too soft to wear as jewelry, so other metals are added to purest gold to enhance its durability. It’s about striking the perfect balance between the warmth and purity of gold and adding just enough alloy to ensure the jewelry’s longevity, or to give it a particular hue (like white or rose gold). Where is AUrate’s jewelry made?

All of AUrate’s jewelry is handmade by master craftspeople right here in New York. Not only does this help us to keep prices affordable by avoiding costly import taxes, it also means we can catch up in person with our makers, keep an eye on your order and work closely to produce the most beautiful pieces possible.

Can I get a certificate of authenticity?

No problem at all – all of AUrate’s pieces include a certificate of authenticity as standard.

What’s the quality of your stones?

All of our white diamonds are graded SI (‘eye-clean’) or above for clarity, and Colorless (D to F) or Near Colorless (G to J). Each product page contains detailed information about its specific cut and carat. And all of our pearls are freshwater AAA graded and Akoya pearls.

Are your diamonds conflict-free?

We are completely committed to only using diamonds (and, for that matter, any raw materials) from sources that are certifiably conflict-free throughout the supply chain. We’re also going far beyond that to insist that our suppliers practice the highest levels of social, environmental and human rights responsibility. If you’re as passionate about this as we are, you can find out more here.

Do any AUrate pieces contain nickel?

Absolutely not. We only use 14- or 18-karat gold, and a base of sterling silver for our vermeil pieces.

Which materials are AUrate’s pieces crafted from?

We only use the finest materials possible – for us, this doesn’t just mean using the purest gold, diamonds and pearls we can find, but also insisting on only using materials that meet our meticulous ethical standards. We’re setting new industry standards for responsible sourcing. Find out much more here.

Our solid gold pieces are made using either 14-karat or 18-karat gold, and our vermeil pieces are sterling silver plated with over 2.5 microns of 14-karat gold – a much thicker, and more durable, finish than other jewelers. Vermeil pieces can be upgraded to solid gold if preferred – please drop us a line for details.
